Texas teens ages of 14 to 17 and Texas adults ages 18 to 24 are required to attend TDLR approved driver education course before applying for a learner’s permit. Teens are required to take the 32-hour teen TDLR approved course whereas the adults are required to complete the 6-hour TDLR approved course.

Texas teens ages 14 to 17 are expected to complete a 32-hour TDLR approved teen drivers ed course, complete 7 hours of behind the wheel driving lessons and 7 hours of observation as well as complete 30 hours of behind the wheel driving lessons with parent or a qualified adult .

Texas adults ages 18 to 24 are expected to complete 6-hours of TDLR approved drivers ed course. Though, there are no explicit behind the wheel requirements for adults 18 to 24, candidates applying for a driving lesson must be proficient in Texas driving rules and laws to pass the written test and must also display proficiency in behind the wheel driving in order to pass the Texas DPS road test.

Texas adults age 25 or older do not have explicit driver education requirement, but they must be fully competent in Texas driving rules and laws to pass the written test and must also display proficiency in behind the wheel driving in order to pass the road test.

Yes, My First Drive Driving School offers TDLR approved online courses for teen and adults. These courses allow you take your course from the convenience of your home – without the need to be dropped off and picked up from the driving school.

Absolutely! The curriculum of this online course is identical to the classroom course with the flexibility to attend the course at your own pace without having to be dropped off and picked up at the school by your parent or guardian.

You can start driver ed 32-hour class as early as age 14. At age 15, you are eligible to apply for a learner’s permit to begin behind the wheel driving lessons.

The ITD Program is designed for saving lives through awareness and education. The goal of the program is to educate drivers and reduce the risk of being involved in automobile crashes, particularly those caused by distracted driving.

There are two different variations of this program:
Impact Texas Teen Drivers (ITTD) – a two-hour video course for teens.
Impact Texas Adult Drivers (ITAD) – a one-hour video course for adults.

Teens between ages of 15 and 17 are required to complete ITTD before being allowed to take the road test.
All adults who have completed te 6-hour course and received ADE-1317 certificate are required to complete ITAD before being allowed to take the road test.
Road test must be taken within 90 days of completing ITD program.

After you have completed the program, Texas DPS will immediately send you a completion certificate via email. This certificate expires after 90 days. If you do not take you road test within 90 days after completing this program, you will need to complete the ITD course again.

REFUND/TERMINATION/DISCONTINUED COURSE POLICY

The effective date of the termination for refund purposes will be the earliest of the following: (a) the last day of attendance, if the student is terminated by the school; (b) the date of receipt of written notice from the student; or (c) the 10th school day following the last day of attendance.

If tuition is collected in advance of entrance and, if a student does not enter the school, terminates enrollment, or withdraws, the school: (a) may retain not more than $ 50.00 as an administrative expense; and (b) shall refund that portion of the classroom tuition and fees and behind-the-wheel tuition and fees that correspond to services the student does not receive.

A full refund of all tuition and fees is due and refundable in each of the following cases: (a) when an enrollee is not accepted by the school; (b) if the course of instruction is discontinued by the school at this location; or (c) if the student’s enrollment was procured as a result of any misrepresentation in advertising, promotional materials of the school, or misrepresentation by the owner or representation of the school.

Refunds shall be completed within 30 days after the effective date of termination; there are no refunds after the certificate issuance.

Tuition is refundable with a written request and will be sent to the student within 30 days of the student’s withdrawal or termination. A refund will be pro-rated and given based on the cost and length of the program.

A NO-SHOW fee of $60 will be charged in each instance when the school is not notified of a cancellation or rescheduling at least 24 hours prior to a scheduled in-car lesson.

A student that does not show up within first 10 minutes of the scheduled class will be considered no show and will be responsible for no-show fee of $60.

Students must arrive 5 minutes before their scheduled drive time for check-in. Late students will not be allowed to drive for that day and will have to be rescheduled. Our drive schedules are designed in a way that provides flexibility for the student, but late arrivals put a strain on our schedules causing a delay for other students. If a student has to be cancelled for being late a $60.00 will be charged. This fee is to help cover the cost of the contracted instructor who showed up for the drive time. Parents, please make your best effort to pick up your student on time after they have completed their driving session. This helps us tremendously by staying on schedule.

When using our pick-up and drop-off service, My First Drive Driving School LLC instructor will arrive at the scheduled pick-up time. If the student does not appear within 5 minutes, the driving instructor will text the student or parent/guardian. If the student does not show within 10 minutes, the driving instructor will leave, and the lesson will be treated as a “NO SHOW resulting in a NO SHOW fee of $60.

Safety is always foremost on our minds when driving students. There might be times when would need to cancel driving lessons due to adverse weather conditions. In such cases, your driving lesson may be rescheduled. You may or may not be notified of the cancellation due to adverse weather due to communication and other unforeseeable circumstances.

The student and/or parent is responsible for determining and carrying all required documentation when:
Obtaining the learner’s permit or driver’s license.
Taking the online course
Conducting behind-the-wheel driving lessons
Taking the road test.

It is responsibility of the teen to carry the learner’s permit when taking behind-the-wheel driving lessons. A student visiting the school without the permit will not be able to get behind the wheel and the lesson will be treated as a no-show resulting in a charge of $60.
