Driving Lessons for Teens

Our comprehensive driver education program is designed to guide new students through all the requirements for obtaining a Texas driver's license which includes:

  • Online teen driver education course
  • behind-the-wheel driving lessons for teens
  • Texas authorized DPS road test

Online Teen Driver Education Course

Completing the 24-hour online driver education course is the first step and pre-requisite for teens before they can practice behind-the-wheel driving lessons. This online class covers important topics such as traffic laws, road signs, defensive driving strategies, and responsible decision making behind the wheel. After completing  the course and passing the built-in permit test, students need to visit a DPS office to obtain their permit..

Behind-the-Wheel Driving Lessons

After obtaining the learner's permit, teens begin taking driving lessons with our friendly licensed driving instructors. During these lessons, students gain hands-on experience practicing essential skills such as lane control, turning, changing lanes, stopping, and parallel parking. Teens are  required to complete at least 37 hours of driving before they are eligible to take the road test.

Texas Authorized DPS Road Test

The final step is taking the Texas Authorized DPS road test at the driving school. The test is taken onsite at the driving school  in the driving school vehicle.  The test  can be scheduled online.

Driving Lessons for Adults

Our end-to-end adult driver education program encompasses everything an adult needs to obtain a Texas drivers license:

  • 6-hour online adult driver education course
  • Behind-the-wheel driving lessons for adults
  • Texas authorized DPS road test

6-hour Online Adult Driver Education Course

Adults are required to complete the 6-hour adult driver education course before they can obtain a learner's permit.  This 6-hour adult course is designed to establish a solid foundation of Texas traffic laws, road signs, and defensive driving strategies. Upon completion of the course and successfully passing the built-in test, the student must visit  DPS offices to obtain their learner's permit. Adults over 25 are not required to take this course; however, it is highly recommended.

Behind-the-wheel Driving Lessons

After obtaining their learner's permit, adults can begin taking driving lessons. During these lessons, students gain hands-on experience developing the essential skills needed to pass the driver’s test. For adults, there is no fixed number of required driving lessons; however, they must demonstrate proficiency in core driving skills such as turning, changing lanes, parallel parking, and stopping.

Texas Authorized DPS Road Test

The last step is in obtaining a driver's license is taking the Texas Authorized DPS road test at the driving school. The test is conducted onsite at the driving school using a school vehicle. It can be scheduled online.

The test evaluates fundamentals of driving such as lane control, turning left and right, stopping, yielding, changing lanes, stopping, parking, and adherence to Texas traffic laws.

Yes, driver education can be completed online in Texas through state-approved providers. These courses follow the same curriculum as in-person classes and are accepted by the Department of Public Safety (DPS). Both teens and adults can complete the classroom portion online at their own pace. You can get started with our Texas online driver education course from anywhere, including Sugar Land and Richmond.

Teens in Texas can start driver education at age 14 but must be at least 15 to apply for a learner’s permit. The program includes a 24-hour classroom or online course, 44 hours of driving practice, and completion of the IMPACT Texas Teen Drivers (ITTD) program before the road test. A teen can get a learner’s permit after completing the first 6 hours of driver education and passing the knowledge test.
