Texas Driver Ed Requirements for Teens and Adults

TEEN DRIVER LICENSE documents

Age 15 to 17 Permit Qualifications:

You must bring the following to DPS to obtain your permit:

Age 16 to 17 Road Test Qualifications:

Must have held a permit for at least 6 months
Must have completed the 32-hours in-class course
Must have complete 14 hours of in-car training (7 hour driving and 7 hour observation)
Must have completed 30 hours of training with a parent or qualified adult
Must have completed IMPACT Texas Teen Drivers (ITTD) course (within 90 days of Texas DPS road test)

Age 18 to 24 Permit Qualifications:

You must bring the following to DPS to obtain your permit:

Age 18 Road Test Qualifications:

Must have held a permit for at least 6 months (if between ages of 18-24)
Must have completed IMPACT Texas Adul Drivers (ITAD) course (within 90 days of Texas DPS road test)
